Black Lives Matter began as a call to action in response to state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism. The intention from the very beginning was to connect Black people from all over the world who have a shared desire for justice to act together in their communities. The impetus for that commitment was, and still is, the rampant and deliberate violence inflicted on us by the state.

The protests that have erupted in cities across the United States in the last week are a visceral response to two recent police killings of black Americans: Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Ky., and George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn. But the demonstrations also represent simmering anger over similar high-profile cases in recent years, each with circumstances that had many people demanding police accountability that, in most cases, never came.

This week we witnessed the world come together for George Floyd. We know there is a long road ahead.Lets remain focused for our call for real Justice.I decided to write a poem dedicated to all our brothers and sisters who lost their lives to police brutality.

Can I Live?

"Who do we call when the murderer wears a badge"?

For centuries ,people who look like me have been subjected to brutality, pain

And sorrow at the hand of racism, white supremacy and injustice.

In 2020,the idea that

True equality ,freedom or the rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness still seem

like a fantasy to many of us in the black community.

All lives matter, but in the land

of the brave and the home of the free ,we have experienced the narrative that black lives

matter less.

I pray for the countless families victimized by racism and police brutality in the name of Justice.

I pray for our loved ones ,our fathers, mothers, uncles, husbands, sons and daughters that they will be able to live and live full.I pray for freedom, change and justice for all.

We still have so much work to do,we need more than one day of unity. Our voices matter.
